I just got word from Danny Adair via email about LinkedIn finally enabling groups and group creation again, ergo we now have a Python linked in Group!
The group membership is moderated, however here is a link to sign up for the group, your request will be queued and then later approved. I am going to go through my list of contacts on LinkedIn and trim out the latest Python round and notify people of the new group.
This is a much better solution than individual connections!

I didn’t get an e-mail from linked-in :-( I feel left out (I have been waiting for groups as well). Did the e-mail mention the new Groups API? There is no information on the site yet.

Hello Doug, LinkedIn didn’t create the group or send invitations, I did. They had adding of new groups functionality disabled for a while, and I simply was the first one to create a Python group when it became possible again. Inspired by http://wiki.python.org/moin/LinkedInPythonIndividuals from which I pulled the first email addresses for invitations. Not veryone listed there with profile URL only got an invitation because I would need to be connected to them to see their email address. I stopped checking the page for new entries when someone “ordered” the names alphabetically.

Just want make a short note for german speakers: that there is already a similar available since a long time.
Beside that, i will join the LinkeIn group to, to get in contact with more international pythoneers.

Ah! I get it now. Sorry. I gave my e-mail address to Linked-In to be notified when Groups stuff became active, and have not heard from them yet. Odd. Time to play with the PyCon logo and create a Pycon 2008 group!

I also gave my email address and wasn’t notified either. Can’t remember why I checked it again but all of a sudden it worked.

I tried to join the LinkedIn group, but my pending membership seems to have disappeared. I can only assume that I wasn’t accepted into the group, but I don’t understand why. Can someone clarify?

Problem solved. I suspect it was queueing delays at LinkedIn.
